A downloadable game for Windows

Dormant is a game that I handed in as my final high school project in an unfinished state. I'm currently working on it.

It's based on notes and sketches I've created throughout quarantine. The game's story is about the mental torture of an individual who lived in a hostile and isolated environment. Little issues with no way to vent build up until the victim lashes out.

The gameplay consists of puzzle solving, avoiding danger, exploring and figuring out what exactly went wrong. The game's enviroment keeps repeating (such as in P. T., for example), each time changing shape drastically to reflect the victim's state of mind. The further the player gets in-game, the deeper the player gets to explore the victim's mind and bottled-up anger. They're trying to stop the player from touring their mind as best they can, but it's not hard to go further still.

Since I knew the game wouldn't be finished in such a short time to hand it in, I focused a lot on the graphics. The game ended up with the visual style of video games released around the year 2000, with Half-Life being one of my biggest inspirations while making textures. The low-res textures and rough filters give off an early digital camera video recording visual style, which I fully embraced. I took special care to capture all the textures in bleak weather, including the inside ones, which helps to convey the desolate atmosphere.

I plan to work on this game slowly but surely; I don't want to rush anything this close to me, so I can't give a release date. I plan to release the game in little bits as I go. Eventually, I want to release the game on Steam for free alongside paid extra content, detailing the development and giving more lore.

The attatched demo is the latest version there is, although I'm considering moving from Unity to Godot and reworking the first few levels. I don't plan for the visuals or the gameplay to change much. Hopefully not at all. Enjoy! :)

I can't express how much i loved the 'focus' in the game, it was so well done (everything else was too). Super good but sadly so short little game. Awesome job !

I made a video on your game if you're interested :)

An absolute gut punch! This was gory, raw and exceptional!

I loved the style of this demo. I liked the obscure atmosphere and the shadow figure is legit creepy. Can't wait to see the full game once published. All the best to your development. Cheers!

Thank youu! I'm glad you enjoyed it <3

Hi there, I am DragonExplosion and I am a Youtuber. If you like my videos, please leave a like and subscribe at my channel.

This was a pretty intriguing experience as despite the demo being short, I felt that the game mechanics were quite interesting and the storyline definitely piques my curiosity as to what is about to occur as well. I found the idea of turning lights on and off, being able to sense the connection in the dark and the use of the shadow being the ominous character preventing the main character from moving forward is really cool.

I really liked the bloody, flesh-like texture being used in the game and I assume that the storyline will be the main push for the game as a whole. At the moment, I can't really suggest much in terms of improvements due to the length of the demo but I hope that the creator is able to construct an immersive storyline and make greater usage of imagery and visuals to emphasise the internal turmoil that the main character is facing when he enters the house. Moreover, I also recommend the usage of flashbacks if the storyline permits for it to occur.

Thank you for reading my comment and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.

Omg, thank you for this comment! It's great feedback and I aprecciate it a lot, thank you. I'm glad you've had fun as well :) Also most of the messages in game are placeholders, thus the story isn't explained well yet. Thanks for the idea of using flashbacks though :]
